This week, we successfully delivered a tailored 10L jacketed stainless steel reactor system to a client in Bangladesh for the preparation of polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) emulsion—commonly known as white glue. The complete system includes a circulating heater, circulating chiller, vacuum pump, and a peristaltic pump for controlled feeding, providing an integrated solution for emulsion polymerization. PVAc emulsions are widely used in adhesives, paints, and coatings, requiring precise temperature control, efficient mixing, and careful handling of high-viscosity materials throughout the process.
A key highlight of this 10L stainless steel reactor project is the customized agitator, specifically engineered to handle the demanding rheology of PVAc emulsions. The design features a frame-type impeller combined with an internal helical ribbon and PTFE scrapers, ensuring thorough mixing and effective wall scraping to prevent material buildup and improve heat transfer. To provide sufficient torque for high-viscosity fluids, the agitator is driven by an enhanced 750W motor, significantly more powerful than standard options. This configuration enables stable and efficient operation across a wide viscosity range, from the initial monomer mixture to the final thick emulsion.
The client plans to use this system for small-scale trials and process optimization. Upon successful validation, the process will be scaled up to industrial production volumes.
